Texas. (Feb. 2020 Part 3)
The wilderness town of Marathon, with its population of around 400 people, was founded when the Southern Pacific Railroad rolled into town in 1882. Determined to keep Marathon on the map, a keen auto-enthusiast named “Ted” recently bought the old Marathon railroad depot to turn it into a Transport Museum. It’s still a work in progress, but this skilled restorer is gradually building his collection. The town has a small school which boosts it’s own football field with digital scoreboard — which hardly seems necessary given that there are only 4 or 5 students in each year group.
